ROW80 Check-In 7/24

I'm a bit late with posting today, but my excuse is a good one - family time :) We went and watched Captain America, and it was much better than I expected.

Since my last check-in I've stayed productive and been hitting my goals. Definitely getting well over the 30 minutes of writing each day, but I had an idea for a short story pop up out of nowhere.

The novel edits are slow going, but I'm determined to continue working on them. I don't know why but I seem to be making the process harder than need be. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

As to the more personal/health side, I've kept to working out, eating right, and getting enough sleep. The weather has been nice, which gave me an added boost to stay focused.

I hope all my ROW80 pals are doing well also!

Marie

  2. Well done for writing more than you planned. As for the edits, no idea there.
Good luck with all your goals both on writing and life.

  3. Great job hitting and surpassing your goals! When I'm editing sometimes it helps to print out what I have and make edits in pen (pretty colors are always a plus). I don't know why, but sometimes it just gives me that extra push.

Best of luck with the rest of this week!

  4. Great job exceeding your goals, Marie! And I love the ideas that come from nowhere--this past week I had a character from a short story I'd written knock on my brain, demanding more!

I work with paper and pretty colored pens, like Lisa said above. I have several nice fountain pens; I write in blue or black, then edit in green or red or violet (my favorite!) It may be that I'm just a Luddite, but I find it very hard to edit online.

Family time is always more important; I say that as a brand-new empty nester!

  5. Thanks Robin! Yes, love new ideas, especially when they're for shorter works that I know I can get done in decent time, lol. Hope you have a great week as well!

  8. Thanks so much Nancy - the colors thing intrigues me, and just might be what I need. I'm a visual person and that will help liven things up a bit. I think also I'm too tempted while online to get to a point that stops me and then just want to work on something else.

Hope your week is colorful and creative!

  9. I print it out - punch holes and make like its a 'book' in a folder or tied between two peices of coloured card (as opposed to sheaf of papers - I like to get the feel of how it will 'read' - then I use coloured pens for corrections - if the flow seems wrong I read out loud - in fact on some of the more complicated bits I will try that straight away - find words get missed in the excitment or too formal a redition of a word might slow the pace.

but before I read I settle myself in a comfy place + nice cup of coffee or tea + sticky bun or biscuit and 'read' my 'book' - find it works for me

  10. Thank you so much for the suggestions, Alberta! I am giving the print it out method a shot. I definitely agree with reading aloud - makes a big difference! I read fast and that doesn't work well when looking for errors...I skim right over them.
I so appreciate you stopping by! Hope you have a wonderful rest of your week :)
